That Kind of Life

The conversations at last night’s dinner with Josh and Fabius mostly revolved around the issue of ‘aging’. Ok maybe that is too extreme a word, but we were starting to realise how the elements of ‘youth’ are drifting further away from us. It didn’t help that Fabius and I were dressed all formerly in office wear because of internship, discussing about work, news and current affairs. See the ‘aging’ trend surfacing already?

It’s been two weeks of internship, and I would say I’ve gotten used to the lifestyle already. Waking up early in the morning, squeezing in the train, going to work, going for lunch, back to work, back to squeezing in train, go back home and then sleeping early and the cycle starts again. On some days there are of course the inserts of going out after work, sleep on the bus or train on my way home, and dragging my body from bus stop or train station back home. Sounds rather mundane huh, and Fabius reminded me that this may actually be my kind of life for the next 40 years. Scary. Then again, it’s not all that bad, as I’m kinda enjoying what I get out of work.

I’m like a few months slow, but I just realised that Diablo 3 will be released soon! I am a real fan of Diablo 2, and have waited for almost 6-7 years for the team to work on Diablo 3. I thought it went dead, and kinda gave up waiting as I saw how Blizzard seemed to favour WoW and Starcraft. Thank goodness that Blizzard proved me wrong. Seen some shots and reviews about it, and it looks really cool. I’m now a little worried that if it comes out somewhere at the end of the year, I may get hooked to it, and would be in deep trouble for my honours. Then again, my last encounters with Gunbound and DOTA kinda brought me my two best semesters. How ironic.

Oh, and I probably also need a new computer to play this cool game. I’m not someone who likes to splurge on the latest gadgets and technology, but I realised a recent desire to get new gadgets and computers for myself. It doesn’t help that I’m kinda broke at this moment.

Singapore, First Youth Olmypics Games Host

Before I write about the happier stuff, lemme first talk about the not so happy stuff first. The crisis management assignments is kinda taking up alot of my time and energy. No doubt I will admit that the lecturers did a great job coming up with this concept, and coming up with the narration. However, 3 assignments in 4 days is no joke. And assuming that my guess is right and that there will be a final one tomorrow, it will be 4 assignments in 5 days. Some people may say the percentage of each of the assignment is small, so its not much of a problem. But that’s not the case for me. You see for any assignments, I do not really care what the percentage is. It can be 1%, 10% or more, I will still want to give it my best. Even if its leaving it to the very last minute (which I always do), I will still want to ensure that I make use of every single of the last few minutes to come up with something good. I guess thats just me, so it inevitably causes me much headache in this crisis communication assignment. In fact, I am left a little scared now whenever I hear the word ‘crisis’.

Ok on to the happier stuff. Yes! Singapore has won the bid for hosting the first ever Youth Olympics Games! I was waiting for the results for quite a while already, and was keeping my fingers crossed, as I felt that Moscow was definitely the favourite. But deep down, I still had high hopes for Singapore, as I think a good point was made regarding how Moscow already has the ability to host a bigger scale main olympics, so Singapore should actually be given the chance to host the smaller scale youth olympics. Furthermore, I am sure a young and vibrant country like ours would suit the youth olympics better. And yes, the IOC chose Singapore!

Thanks to Bing De, I managed to view some videos, together with the one on channelnewsasia. I share much of my sentiments already been pinned down by Bing De on his blog. It is through these kinda situations whereby you feel so proud to be a Singaporean again, where you feel the patriotism usually lacking in the very shy and reserved Singaporeans, and where you feel the joy and warmth of home. It’s such a good feeling, but sadly I only manage to get this warm feeling during National Day parades, the SEA Games and the Tiger Cup. Oh and one other thing that I am happy about, I am sure winning this bid will see a major facelift in sports facilities in Singapore, something which we so dearly need. I hope to see more upgrades in stadiums and swimming pools, and other sports facilities around Singapore. I am no sport fanatic, but it is always nice and exciting to see such changes around the country. Watching the videos was some what euphoric yet emotional. Can’t wait to read the papers tomorrow.

The second happy thing to mention, is of course Dota. Had quite a few nice games of Dota with the guys today, and I enjoyed myself. Despite still being noobish, I managed to up my level abit to join in the fun of killing. As mentioned in a previous post, the feeling was so much like poly. Fun and games in school, instead of assignments and grades. Of course, it is important to know where and when to stop. It was real fun. Hock did mention today that maybe I am not feeling all so stressed because I am enjoying myself more this semester with Dota and such. Well maybe it did help a little, but I guess the main reason is really still the sudden decrease in the amount of assignments this semester, for now at least.

First Blood …. Monster Kill …. Ownage!

My Holidays So Far

*Wipes off the cobwebs and dust*

Yes yes, I know, it has been real long since I blogged. In fact, I was tempted to even find some animated gif spiders with spinning cobwebs to put on my blog. Well, currently in the midst of my holidays, and it is basically revolving around my girlfriend, arts camp and playing games.

Well, with regards to arts camp, as the date is drawing near, more and more problems are starting to surface. Of course, problems are more or less inevitable, but when you are really faced with it, it can somehow get real vexing and somehow just tires you out. And I also realised that by doing arts camp, its not just a test to what I can do or achieve, but more of realising what weaknesses I really have, and how I can overcome them through the whole arts camp process. Well, really really hope that all will turn out well.

Ok, after not blogging for so long, I guess I shall not blog that much about unhappy stuff. I will move on to something more happy, and something which has been taking up most of my time this holidays, Tales of Pirates. Yup, its a game I just picked up, from Lionel, Reuben and Edward. I must say this game is a real nice MMORPG, ever since Diablo 2. Diablo 2 is one of all time favourite games, and I was quite sad that Blizzard had decided to stop any plans for expansion or continuation of Diablo. But fortunately, Tales of Pirates is somewhat similar to that of Diablo, and I am really enjoying it. I must say that I am quite impressed by the graphics, and it has some sort of a quest and storyline which gives the game play abit more direction, as compared to a very repetative Diablo 2. I guess what really attracts me to these games is that you can create an avatar, and build up on it. The more you play, the higher your level, the higher your ‘status’. And this makes people want to continue playing because they have something to build up on, and attaining a higher level and ‘status’ not only makes one’s avatar stronger, but also makes one feel better about his achievements. Ok I shall not go on any further if not it will start to sound like a psychology to new media lecture.

Another full day in school tomorrow. Hopefully we can get some sign ups or interest for arts camp. And dang, there is no leak of results this year. Guess I just have to wait for another week then. Sigh.
